Types of Drilling Processes
Single Pass Drill: The conventional method of drilling holes in PCBs where a bit passes through the PCB once to create a hole.
Step Drill: A method to minimize bit breakage, where initially about 1/2 or 1/3 of the PCB is drilled and then the remaining portion is drilled to create the hole. Mainly used for thicker products.
Double Drill: A method to enhance bit durability and precision of hole positioning. The first pass is made with a shorter-bladed bit to accurately establish the midpoint position, followed by a second pass using a regular bit to complete the through-hole.
Continuous Drill: Using smaller diameter bits to drill only a certain depth of layers when the hole size is large.
Depth Control Drill: Adjusting the drill machine's down limit to drill only a portion of the PCB layers.
Back Drill: Adjusting the drill machine's down limit to remove the plating on the hole walls of only a portion of the PCB layers.
Up until now, we've learned about CNC drilling. We will continue from section (5).
